ALLERGY AWARENESS WEEK:
PRACTICAL HELP FOR THE FOOD ALLERGIC
LAKE FOREST, CALIFORNIA – The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis
Network (FAAN) has declared this May 8 – 14 “Food Allergy
Awareness Week,” a time for educating the public about food
allergies. For the parents of the approximately 8% of American children
who suffer from severe food allergies, however, every week is “food
allergy awareness week.” These parents live with the knowledge
that for their children, ingestion of even a tiny amount of food
can quickly cause a potentially life-threatening reaction.
Parents of severely food-allergic children face numerous challenges:
finding recipes for safe and delicious foods that meet the requirements
of the prescribed “strict avoidance” diet; getting others
to take the allergy seriously; creating a safe and enjoyable home,
school and social life for the child; dining in restaurants; traveling;
and more. Because food is everywhere, this is a condition that affects
every aspect of the family’s life.
To help parents successfully care for and feed their food-allergic
children, Plumtree Press has published two books by Linda Coss:
How To Manage Your Child’s Life-Threatening Food Allergies:
Practical Tips For Everyday Life and What’s To Eat?
The Milk-Free, Egg-Free, Nut-Free Food Allergy Cookbook. The
mother of a teenage son with multiple potentially fatal food allergies,
Ms. Coss has over ten years of experience as the leader of a support
group for parents of children with severe food allergies.
How To Manage is a thorough instruction manual that provides
the detailed, step-by-step information that parents need. What’s
To Eat? is a comprehensive cookbook with over 145 recipes for
everything from main dishes and side dishes to breakfast foods and
baked goods. Both books are available at www.FoodAllergyBooks.com,
Amazon.com, and booksellers
nationwide.
